Minorities commision report says Dadri lynching was premeditated
The findings said it was 'quite an understatement' to say the death of the 52-year-old Muslim was an accident, as some politicians called it.
A report filed by the National Commission for Minorities on the lynching of a Muslim man in Dadri, following rumours that he had killed a calf, says the incident was planned, and not spontaneous. The commission said it was “quite an understatement” to say the lynching of Mohammed Akhlaq was an accident, a reference statements made by Bharatiya Janata Party minister Mahesh Sharma and other right-wing leaders. According to the Press Trust of India, the report claimed politicians made controversial statements to gain mileage from such incidents.
The report claimed that moral policing was spreading all over the country, especially in western Uttar Pradesh. It advised political establishments to stop their members and sympathisers from making irresponsible statements.
