Maharashtra crisis: 16 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs get disqualification notices, asked to reply by Monday
The Shiv Sena passed a resolution saying that no one will be allowed to use the name of party founder Balasaheb Thackeray to form a new group.
The deputy speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly on Saturday issued disqualification notices to 16 rebel leaders who are camping with minister Eknath Shinde in Guwahati. They have been asked to respond by Monday.
Earlier in the day, the Shiv Sena passed a resolution saying that no one will be allowed to use the name of party founder Balasaheb Thackeray to form a new group. The development came hours after rebel MLA Deepak Kesarkar said that the faction led by Eknath Shinde has named itself “Shiv Sena Balasaheb”.
Shinde, meanwhile, alleged that the Maharashtra government has withdrawn the security cover of 16 rebel legislators, including himself. However, state Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil rejected the claim as baseless.
The rebel MLAs, whose revolt plunged the Maharashtra government into political turmoil, are demanding that the Shiv Sena should quit the ruling alliance formed with the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party.
