15-year-old Dalit boy killed in Haryana, two police officials suspended
Locals in Gohana blocked roads and the railway track after the teenager was found dead.
A 15-year-old Dalit boy was found dead in Haryana's Gohana town in the Sonepat district on Thursday, two days after a couple of Dalit children were burnt to death in the state. The boy's family alleged that he was killed by the police, after he was questioned regarding the alleged theft of a pigeon. A doctor later revealed that the boy had died of hanging. On Friday, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar dismissed the idea that there was a caste angle to the incident, and claimed it was a suicide.
The Gohana Police have suspended two assistant sub-inspectors under murder charges after the boy's family clashed with the police and placed the body on the road, demanding action against the erring officers. Locals also blocked a road and a railway track for more than three hours, reported the Times of India.
