MEA says the Centre hopes Pakistan 'delivers on promises'
The Indian government responded after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif promised to act against terrorist groups in his country.
The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said the Centre hopes Pakistan delivers on the promises it has made to tackle terror groups including the Lashkar-e-Taiba, said a Times of India report. "Terrorism naturally comes to mind when talking about Pakistan. The US-Pak joint statement devotes much space to it," MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said. The ministry added it is open to National Security Advisor-level talks as decided after the summits held at Ufa in Russia earlier this year. “Pak chooses to use terrorism as an instrument of state policy. India has always desired resolution of all issues bilaterally,” the spokesperson said.
The statement comes after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif promised to take action against terrorist outfits and “United Nations-designated terrorist individuals and entities, including Lashkar-e-Taiba” in Pakistan. Sharif issued a joint statement with United States President Barack Obama after a meeting at the White House on Thursday. The US President welcomed Sharif's promise to tackle the LeT and called for sustained dialogue between India and Pakistan.
