One civilian killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in J&K
Indian forces strongly retaliated to the Pakistani firing, according to reports.
At least one civilian was killed and two others injured when Pakistani troops reportedly violated the ceasefire along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district on Friday. Overnight firing by Pakistani rangers was reported on nine border outposts in Samba. Indian Border Security Forces strongly retaliated to the Pakistani firing, according to TV reports.
A BSF spokerperson said that Pakistani Rangers started unprovoked firing on Friday evening, targeting a BSF outpost and civil labourers, who were carrying out construction work "well inside the Indian territory".
Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, said, "Pakistan is time and again trying to push in terrorists [through the border] and ultimately they cut the fencing to get-in. That fencing was being repaired when the Pakistani rangers opened fire and one person has died in the firing.
The fresh round of firing comes after the BSF and Pakistani Rangers held a meeting in New Delhi on September 12 and agreed to uphold ceasefire agreements. At least 52 ceasefire violations were reported in August, while 19 were reported in July. In total, there have been 245 ceasefire violations reported in 2015.
