J&K: Soldier killed in gunfight along LoC while foiling infiltration bid in Uri
This was the fourth Army casualty in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir in the past week.
A soldier was killed in a gunfight on Wednesday as the Army foiled an infiltration attempt by suspected militants along the Line of Control in Uri, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, ANI reported.
The Army’s Chinar Corps identified the soldier who was killed as Havildar Ankit Kumar.
The Army had killed two suspected militants in the same area a few days ago, ANI quoted officials as saying. Search operations after the gunfight are underway.
This was the fourth Army casualty in the line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir over the past week.
On August 9, two soldiers – Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh – were killed and two others were injured during a gunfight with suspected militants in Kulgam district during a security operation codenamed “Operation Akhal”.
On Tuesday, the Army said another soldier, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar, was killed while “performing operational duty” along the Line of Control in Baramulla.
