Defence minister to shop for helicopters, long-range missiles in Russia
The two countries are also likely to discuss the leasing of another nuclear submarine to India.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will look to acquire long-range missiles and two different types of military helicopters when he visits Russia for three days beginning Saturday, reported The Hindu. The agreements will be formally signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia in December if discussions fructify during Parrikar’s trip.
India is interested in procuring S-400 Surface-to-Air Missiles and additional Mi-17 V5 medium lift helicopters. Negotiations are also likely to be wrapped up on building Kamov-226 T utility helicopters in India, said the report. The two countries are also likely to discuss the Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft deal, and the leasing of another nuclear submarine to India, reported The Indian Express.
