A United States-based think tank has stated that India has "one of the largest nuclear power programmes" among developing countries. The report by the Institute for Science and International Security also estimates India's nuclear weapons made from weapon-grade plutonium to be in a range of 75 to 125 at the end of 2014.

India's nuclear arsenal is, however, less than that of neighbour Pakistan, according to a recent report which claimed the country has between 110 to 130 warheads.

One of the co-authors of the US report, David Albright, has previously led anti-India campaigns at the US Congress and other think tanks against the India-US civil nuclear deal.
