Supreme Court rejects Kanimozhi’s plea to quash 2G scam charges
The case against her has been pending for over two-and-a-half years.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a plea by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kanimozhi, seeking to quash charges framed against her in the 2G scam case. The case against Kanimozhi has been pending in the court for over two-and-a-half years, reported The Hindu.
A bench of Chief Justice HL Dattu and Justices AK Sikri and Rohinton Nariman said the trial is almost over and thus cannot entertain the petition. Her lawyer had said there was not an "iota of doubt" against her and argued that criminal charges can be framed against a person only if there is grave suspicion verging on certainty.
Kanimozhi, who is accused of taking bribes routed via a TV channel owned by her family, said she was one of the directors of the channel for just two weeks and resigned 18 months before the alleged financial transactions made. She said that she had not signed any cheque on behalf of the company, and neither had she received any monetary benefit.
