The World Anti-Doping Agency on Monday recommended Russia to be suspended from competing in athletics, following a doping investigation. An independent Wada commission examined allegations that Russian athletes paid their own doping officials to supply banned substances and cover up tests. The commission also accused the International Association of Athletics Federations of covering up the abuse. Its report suggests five Russian athletes and as many coaches should be given lifetime bans for doping.

The commission spent 11 months looking into claims of systemic cheating and cover-up within Russian athletics and the sport’s governing body, reported The Guardian. It also said that Moscow’s anti-doping lab should lose its accreditation, accusing it of the “intentional destruction” of 1400 samples.
