Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in London on Thursday afternoon for a three-day visit. Modi will meet British Prime Minister David Cameron at his residence on 10 Downing Street, and they will together address a joint press conference at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Press Trust of India reported. Modi’s schedule for the trip is expected to be hectic. Among other stops, he will pay tribute to a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament square, give speeches at the Houses of Parliament and at the Guildhall and have lunch with the Queen. He will also address 60,000 people, mainly from the Indian diaspora, at Wembley stadium and hold a round-table conference with representatives from major British companies.

Modi’s visit carries the hope of billions of dollars worth of trade deals, which could boost his image at home after his party faced a drubbing in the Bihar Assembly polls, where he led the campaign. The Economic Times reported that deals worth 8-12 billion pounds could be signed during the trip, including an order for 20 trainer aircrafts. Modi’s trip to the UK is the first by an Indian Prime Minister is nearly 10 years, and highly anticipated by the 1.5 million Indians who live in Britain. A section of the population, however, has been protesting against this visit.
