Media tycoon Peter Mukerjea was on Friday charged with murder and criminal conspiracy by the Central Bureau of Investigation for his role in the Sheena Bora murder case. The CBI told a Mumbai court that Mukerjea played an "active role" in the murder and was in constant touch with his wife and co-accused Indrani Mukerjea. He was also charged with destroying evidence and criminal conspiracy in the chargesheet, NDTV reported.

The court granted the CBI custody of Peter Mukerjea till November 23, after the investigative agency asked for a 14-day custody. Mukerjea's lawyer told the court that he wasn't in the country during the time of Bora's murder in 2012 and neither did he have any motive to kill her.

On Thursday evening, Peter Mukerjea's son Rahul, who was believed to have been in a relationship with Bora, was summoned and questioned by the agency for 12 hours, PTI reported. The CBI also asked Rahul whether he had raised an alarm after Bora disappeared in 2012.

Sheena was born out of Indrani Mukerjea’s first marriage. Indrani later married Peter Mukerjea.
