Namibian cricket player Raymond van Schoor was declared dead on Friday, after suffering a stroke while batting at a match in Windhoek, Namibia. Van Schoor, an opening batsman and wicket-keeper for the Namibia cricket team, was batting on 15 during Namibia's game against Free State Province in a domestic one-day tournament last Sunday. The 25-year-old collapsed on the field after suffering a stroke and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Van Schoor's condition worsened through the week and he passed away on Friday.

Van Schoor was one of Namibia's most capped players and had scored over 8,000 runs for his country across all formats. He was the youngest player to represent Namibia, and his death has been grieved around the cricket world, with many players and administrators paying their respects. "Raymond was a tremendous asset to Cricket Namibia and the national cricket team. He was taken far too early from us," an official statement from the Cricket Namibia Facebook page read. The International Cricket Council was also among those who tweeted their condolences.
