At least 16 people have been taken to hospital as multiple gunmen opened fire at a playground in New Orleans, United States, on Sunday evening. More than 300 people were at the Bunny Friend Park in the city's Upper Ninth Ward, Reuters reported. The large gathering comprised two groups, those present for a music video that was being filmed there, and another set of people who had gathered there after a parade. The police were on their way to the park to break up the gathering when the shootings started. The police said a fight had broken out between two gangs, who started shooting at each other and then left together. New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said no one had died yet, but he could not confirm the condition of the victims.

Television channel WWL TV said the shooting took place at 7 pm local time. Witnesses told the channel they had seen at least two gunmen and several people lying on the pavement after the shootings began. At least 10 of the victims have been taken to the University Medical Center in New Orleans. The city’s mayor had also arrived at the scene, NDTV reported.
