Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that his party is not in the race for the 2019 general elections. Addressing the party’s National Council meeting, Kejriwal said that AAP did not exist to partake in “power politics” and asked its members to continue working “hard and honestly”. Saying that the party's win in the Delhi assembly elections was miraculous, Kejriwal indicated that AAP could do well in Punjab too, but that it was not a reason to stand for elections.

The Delhi chief minister reiterated that the party's main aims were to tackle corruption, and bring Jan Lokpal and Swaraj. He also pointed out the achievements of the party during its tenure in Delhi, including saving Rs 100 crore on a Metro project, reported PTI.

The party is expected to elect new members to its National Executive during the meeting, even as some members protested outside the venue, claiming they were not invited. Founding members Prashant Bhushan, Yogendra Yadav, Ajit Jha and Anand Kumar, who were expelled in April, are expected to be replaced by new members. The National Council is the body of founding members of the party, while National Executive is the second-highest decision-making body.
