Winter session of Parliament: Opposition to target Centre on intolerance
The Congress said it has already given a notice to the Speaker to discuss the matter, while the JD (U) said it would bring up love jihad and ghar wapsi.
The Opposition is likely to target the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government on a range of controversial topics during the winter session of Parliament, beginning November 26. PTI reported that opposition parties will raise matters such as growing intolerance in the country, the reservation policy and rising prices.
Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, said the party had given a notice to the Speaker to discuss the issue of intolerance under Rule 193 of the Lok Sabha, which allows any member to bring up a matter of urgent public importance. Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav tweeted that his party would raise topics such as love jihad and ghar wapsi, adding that it looked like the BJP had not learnt from its loss in the Bihar elections.
A special two-day sitting of the Parliament was called on November 26 and 27 to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, and honour its architect Dr BR Ambedkar. The Opposition is also likely to bring up the Centre’s handling of a number of issues with regard to the laid down Constitutional provisions, PTI said.
