Champions League: Manchester United crash out after losing 3-2 to Wolfsburg
United ended their poor season by placing third in their group, and will now play in the Europa League.
Manchester United and Louis van Gaal's miserable season continued as they lost 3-2 against German club VFL Wolfsburg on Tuesday to be eliminated from the Champions League. Required to beat home team Wolfsburg, United pulled in front in the tenth minute, when French signing Antony Martial scored. Wolfsburg reacted immediately to equalise and then got another goal in the 29th minute to take the lead.
A United goal was ruled out for offside just before half-time, but a late own goal from Wolfsburg with ten minutes left to go appeared to make United more confident. Unfortunately, two minutes later, they conceded another goal to go down 3-2.
It will be a bitter pill for United supporters to swallow, especially as arch-rivals across town Manchester City finished on top of their group, ahead of Juventus.
