Northern Afghanistan hit by another earthquake, tremors felt in Delhi
The 6.3 magnitude quake had its epicentre close to the Pakistani-Tajik borders.
An earthquake struck northern Afghanistan late on Friday night, and its tremors were felt as far as Delhi and parts of north India. The quake measured 6.3 on the Richter scale, reported BBC, and had its epicentre in the province of Badakhshan, close to the Pakistani-Tajikistan border. Reports of casualties have not come in from Afghanistan yet, but at least 17 were killed in Pakistani city Peshawar. Some homes collapsed in Peshawar, Hamid Nawaz, head of Pakistan's disaster management authority told Associated Press.
Residents in Kabul and Islamabad reportedly fled their homes and rushed onto the streets during the quake. PTI reported that residents in New Delhi also ran out of their homes when they felt the tremors, around 12.44 am. Tremors were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir.
A massive quake on October 26 this year, with its epicentre in Afghanistan, killed hundreds and displaced thousands of people (pictured above). Nepal was also hit by a huge earthquake in April this year, affecting thousands of people.
