British Parliament to debate banning Donald Trump from entering UK
The announcement was made after more than half a million people signed an online petition asking for the ban.
The United Kingdom Parliament is set to debate on whether United States presidential hopeful Donald Trump should be banned from the country. A spokeswoman for the House of Commons said the debate has been scheduled for January 18 in Westminster Hall and any member of Parliament can participate.
Last month, an online petition to ban Trump from entering the UK got more than half a million signatures, CNN reported. The petition points out that Trump should be banned from the UK as the country has barred entry to people for “hate speech” before and the the same principles should apply to him.
The petition followed Trump’s calls for a border shutdown to prevent Muslims from entering the United States. A clip of his remarks was recently used by al-Qaeda’s Somalia-based affiliate al-Shabaab in a recruitment video, in which it appeals to American blacks and Muslims to join the group.
