Suspected al-Qaeda terrorist arrested in Bengaluru
The man, a teacher at a madrassa, was allegedly planning a series of terror strikes in India.
A man suspected of having links with terrorist group al-Qaeda was arrested by Delhi police in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Maulana Anzar Shah, a teacher at a madrassa, was allegedly planning a series of terror strikes in India, IANS reported. Shah will be produced in Patiala House Court in Delhi on Friday.
Shah’s name came up during interrogations of others arrested on charges with terrorism. Zafar Masood and Abdul Rehman, two operatives of al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent, were arrested in December. Mohammed Asif, who recruits and trains people for AQIS, said he met Shah at a religious meeting in Bengaluru. Officials also have details of financial transactions between Shah and the group.
