The Aam Aadmi Party government has collected more than Rs 2 crore in fines from the odd-even rule that was implemented between January 1 and January 15. The state government had imposed a Rs-2,000 fine for those violating the rule that allows vehicles with odd and even numbered licence plates to ply on alternate days only.

PTI reported that 10,021 people were challaned, with sub-divisional magistrates doing the bulk of the fining, though Delhi traffic police issuing challans to almost 3,000 people as well. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lauded the traffic police’s efforts to implement the rule.

The AAP announced that money collected from the fine will be used to subsidise cycles. They have said the first phase of implementing the rule was successful and will form a committee to work out its next phase.
