Step up or step back: Omar Abdullah to Mehbooba Mufti
National Conference patriarch Farooq Abdullah, however, asked the PDP president to fulfill her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's agenda of the alliance with the BJP.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday asked Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti to "either rise to the occasion or else step back". The National Conference working president wrote an open letter to Mufti in which he recommended the dissolution of the state assembly. He wrote, "If you are unable or unwilling to assume the responsibilities that are being placed on your shoulders, you must...let the people make a fresh decision in an election."
However, Abdullah's father and NC patriarch Farooq Abdullah said the PDP should continue its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party to complete the agenda of Mufti's father and former Chief Miniser Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, who died on January 7. "If she tries to play with [Sayeed's agenda], then she is not her father's daughter," Abdullah told Hindustan Times.
