Kolkata hit-and-run: Sambia Sohrab confesses to driving car that ran over IAF officer
The police said he also admitted to being drunk while driving the car after attending a party.
Sambia Sohrab, the main accused in the Kolkata hit-and-run case, on Friday confessed that he was driving the Audi car that mowed down an Indian Air Force officer during a Republic Day parade rehearsal. The Kolkata Police said that son of the Trinamool Congress member Mohammed Sohrab also admitted that he was drunk while driving the car early in the morning on January 13.
A Kolkata Police official told PTI that Sambia Sohrab had earlier been trying to mislead them by giving false statements. "Since day one of [the] interrogation, he has been giving us contradictory versions regarding the mishap. Sometimes, he said he was not driving the car, but it was Sonu, his friend and another accused, behind the wheels. But today some strategic interrogation helped us getting Sambia's confession," the official added.
The police have also arrested Sohrab's friends Sonu and Johnnie. On Thursday, they issued an arrest warrant against Mohammad Sohrab as well.
