Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's grandnephew, Chandra Bose, on Monday announced that he is joining the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bose will be inducted into the party in the presence of BJP president Amit Shah during a public rally in Howrah. "Joining a political party is a personal matter," said Bose. He added that the BJP follows the idealogy of Netaji, unlike the Congress.

Bose targeted the Mamata Banerjee government, saying only the chit fund industry is flourishing in the state and that it was turning into a safe haven for anti-national elements and fake currency racket, reported PTI.

Bose, who believes that Netaji did not die in a plane crash in 1945, spoke highly of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to declassify files related to the freedom fighter. He had said on Sunday, "We welcome this step by the Prime Minister wholeheartedly. This is a day of transparency in India." Bose has earlier worked for Tata Steel, and lives in Kolkata with his wife.
