Datta Padsalgikar appointed new Commissioner of Mumbai Police
The 1982-batch officer has served in the Intelligence Bureau for more than a decade and will replace Ahmed Javed.
Datta Padsalgikar on Saturday was appointed the commissioner of Mumbai Police after Ahmed Javed, who will retire on January 31, reported Economic Times. Javed will be India's new Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
Padsalgikar, a 1982-batch IPS officer who has served in the Intelligence Bureau for more than a decade, is believed to be the personal choice of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He will be the first Maharashtrian to hold the office in almost a decade.
Mid-day reported that the Padsalgikar was offered the job in September last year after Rakesh Maria was transferred following Sheena Bora murder case, but he rejected the offer as he was keen on continuing with his IB posting.
