CBI accuses Chhota Rajan of forging passport to flee India
The investigative agency also named three former officials of the Bengaluru Passport Office in its chargesheet, accusing them of criminal conspiracy.
The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed its first chargesheet against underworld gangster Chhota Rajan in Delhi. The investigative agency also named three former officials of the Bengaluru Passport Office, accusing them of criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery for issuing a fake passport to Rajan, which he used to escape to Australia. The chargesheet was filed in the Special Court, Patiala House which has also taken cognisance of it, reported PTI.
The CBI said that the four conspired to get Rajan a passport with the fake name of Mohan Kumar, residing in Mandya, Karnataka. “He allegedly reached Australia on September 22, 2003, on the strength of the said passport and tourist visa," an official said. He added that Rajan fraudulently obtained several different visas after that and continued to stay in Australia till October 25, 2015, when he was arrested by the Indonesian Police. He was deported to India on November 6, 2015 and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
