The Revenant takes top honours at the BAFTAs
The Alejandro González Iñárritu film won Best Director, Best Film and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio's performance.
Period film The Revenant on Sunday swept up some of the biggest prizes at the British Academy Film Awards, further solidifying its position as a frontrunner for the Oscars. It won Best Film, its director Alejandro González Iñárritu won Best Director and Leonardo DiCaprio won the Best Actor award, his third BAFTA. The rest of the awards were split evenly among Mad Max: Fury Road, Room, Steve Jobs, Bridge of Spies and Brooklyn.
Brie Larson picked up the Best Actress Award for her performance as a captive mother in Room, while Kate Winslet won Best Supporting Actress for her role as an Apple executive at Steve Jobs. Mark Rylance, who played a Russian spy in Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies won Best Supporting Actor.
Interestingly, no British movie was in the running for Best Film, though there is an Outstanding British Film category, which went to Brooklyn, a historical drama directed by John Crowley about an Irish immigrant in New York.
