Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to participate in an LGBT pride march, making him the first prime minister to ever partake in an event of its kind. Pride Toronto said in a statement on Monday that Trudeau was expected to march in the parade on July 3. The Canadian leader said on Twitter, “[I] very much look forward to being there again, this time as PM.”

Toronto’s first-ever Pride Month will begin on June 1 with a theme of belonging and inclusion. Organisers said gay Syrian refugees will have a place at the Pride events, as well. The Canadian prime minister had initiated a resettlement programme for refugees and had pledged to take in as many as 25,000 of them. Along with Trudeau, Finance Minister Bill Morneau, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne and Mayor of Toronto John Tory are also expected to take part in the march.
