Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s close aide, Professor Virender Singh, surrendered before a Rohtak district court on Thursday. Singh was booked on sedition charges last month for allegedly inciting violence during last month's protests for reservation for the Jat community. Singh stood by his claim and told ANI, “I’m a law-abiding citizen. I haven’t done anything wrong. [The] truth will come out soon,” he said. Singh added that most of the truth had already been revealed as the court had observed that this was not a case of sedition.

The Rohtak police had registered an FIR against Singh last month on sedition charges for his alleged involvement in the Jat agitation. The FIR was reportedly based on an audio clip of a phone call between Singh and Dalal Khap member Captain Man Singh, who was one of the leaders of the Jat protests from Jhajjar. In the clip, which was released in the media, Singh could reportedly be heard provoking more violence in the state. He has, however, maintained that the recording was doctored. Singh was political advisor to Hooda during his term in office.
