At least five killed in explosion in Istanbul
Casualties have been reported, though the numbers have not been confirmed.
At least five people were killed in explosions that hit a major tourist shopping area in Turkish city Istanbul on Saturday morning. Governor of Istanbul Province, Vasip Sahin, said around 20 were injured, though numbers were likely to change. BBC reported that the area, Istiklal Street, is crowded on weekends. The bomb was detonated next to a group of people standing on the pavement, according to CCTV footage officials examined. Armed police sealed off the street, while forensic teams swept the area for evidence.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Last Sunday, a suicide car bombing in Ankara by a Kurdish militant group left 37 people dead.
