Mehbooba Mufti to be sworn in as Jammu and Kashmir chief minister on April 4
The People’s Democratic Party leader will be the first woman to be elevated to the post in the state.
Jammu and Kashmir is set to have a new chief minister, three months after Peoples Democratic Party leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed died in January. PDP president and Sayeed's daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, will be sworn in as the chief minister on April 4, according to reports. Following Sayeed's death, the PDP and its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party, held several talks to carve out their differences, before staking claim to form the state government on March 26. Reports said the two parties are still having discussions on portfolio allocations. In the 87-member state assembly, the PDP has 28 seats, while the BJP has 25.
