Kolkata flyover collapse: Toll rises to 27, BJP attacks Rahul Gandhi for his 'photo op'
The Congress vice-president had gone to the site of the accident on Saturday, but said he was not there to politicise the issue.
Three more bodies were recovered on Saturday from the site of the flyover collapse in Kolkata, bringing the toll from the incident to 27. While rescue operations continue at the site, the Bharatiya Janata Party attacked Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for visiting the spot. The BJP called it a photo opportunity for Gandhi, and said that was the lifeline of his politics, PTI reported.
The BJP also asked Gandhi to clarify his stand on the former Communist government in West Bengal awarding the construction contract to a blacklisted firm. BJP National Secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said party leaders who were campaigning in the state had consciously decided not to visit the site of the flyover collapse, to avoid politicising the issue. Singh also said Congress workers were hampering rescue operations by demonstrating at the site. Gandhi visited the site on Saturday morning, but said he was not there to politicise the issue.
The state's polls are scheduled to be held on April 25 and May 5.
