AAP government 'seriously deliberating' on monthly implementation of odd-even rule: Arvind Kejriwal
The Delhi chief minister said the city's infrastructure was not ready for the scheme on a permanent basis.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said his government was mulling the enforcement of the odd-even number plate rule in the national capital for 15 days every month to deal with the deteriorating condition of the city’s air, reported The Indian Express. He said the city’s infrastructure was not ready to handle the rule on a permanent basis, but he believed that monthly implementation of the rule was doable.
“We are seriously deliberating on the idea whether we can implement the odd-even rule for 15 days every month. See, it cannot be made a permanent feature till the public transport system is improved, and that will take at least a year or one-and-a-half years,” Kejriwal said. The second phase of the experiment will be carried out from April 15-30, when vehicles with odd number plates will be allowed to ply on odd dates while those with even numbers can be driven on even dates. The scheme was implemented in the capital for the first time on January 1, 2016, on a 15-day trial run basis.
