Trinamool Congress leader Abdur Rezzak Mollah on Thursday apologised for his derogatory remarks about actor-turned-politician Roopa Ganguly after the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice against him, reported ANI. During a public rally on Wednesday, Mollah had said that Ganguly is a Draupadi in real life as well, like her character in the popular television series Mahabharat, which was based on the Hindu mythological epic of the same name. Draupadi has five husbands in the epic.

Mollah had also said that he even knew the length of the cigarettes the actor smoked. He had also criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for giving party ticket to celebrities like actor Moon Moon Sen. A BJP delegation took up the matter with the EC, after which the poll watchdog said that it is investigating the matter.

Ganguly, an award-winning actor, had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2015. She refused to comment on Mollah's apology, saying she does not have the time to respond to "such useless things".
