12 officers of Pakistan’s Army sacked after corruption inquiry: Dawn
The officials, among them a three-star lieutenant general, were serving with the Frontier Corps in Balochistan.
As many as 12 officers of the Pakistani Army were dismissed on corruption charges on Thursday by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Dawn reported. While no official announcement has been made yet, local news reports said the sacking was linked to an ongoing internal inquiry into the Frontier Corps, a paramilitary force, in Balochistan. The officers were reportedly asked to return all the money they had accumulated through corrupt practices. They were also stripped of all their privileges as Army personnel, other than their pensions.
Among those dismissed was a three-star lieutenant general, one major-general, four brigadiers a lieutenant colonel, an officer ranked major and several junior commission officers. Sharif had announced a major crackdown on corruption in Pakistan’s army on Tuesday, saying a transparent force was integral to the fight against terrorism.
