Cricket: India to host its first day-night Test match later this year
New Zealand will play the match against India on their upcoming tour, though the dates have not been announced yet.
India will host their first ever day-night Test match against New Zealand when the team tours the country later in the year. Anurag Thakur, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, made the announcement in Delhi on Thursday.
"We have decided that we will play one day-night Test match with the pink ball against New Zealand later this year. Before that, the Duleep Trophy will act as a dress rehearsal for the day-night Test match," said Thakur, Zee News reported. "While we have not zeroed in on the venue, there are lots of factors that need to be taken into account. Things like the dew factor, [and] how the spinners bowl with the pink kookaburra [ball] on Indian pitches. Of these things, we will get an idea during the Duleep Trophy."
Last year, Australia defeated New Zealand in the first ever day-night Test match in Adelaide in November. Despite some complaints about the quality of the ball used, cricket's custodians were impressed by the capacity turnout and have already made plans to host more such matches.
