Popstar Prince dies at 57
The singer passed away at his recording studio, a week after being hospitalised with flu.
American music icon Prince died at his recording studio in suburban Minnesota on Thursday. The seven-time Grammy winner's publicist Yvette Noel-Schure confirmed his death to The Associated Press. The cause of his death is still unknown.
The 57-year-old, the singer of hits like 'Purple Rain' and one of the most successful musicians of his time, had a medical emergency on April 15, which had forced his private jet to make an unscheduled landing in Illinois state, TMZ reported. Though he assured his fans he was fine at a concert the next day, he had reportedly been battling the flu for several weeks, according to People magazine.
Earlier on Thursday, local authorities said that a death investigation was underway at Prince's Paisley Park complex. However, they did not reveal the identity of the fatality, AFP reported.
