Parliament session resumes, Uttarakhand issue derails proceedings
Parties are also going to bring up the Ishrat Jahan case, the country-wide drought crisis, and Vijay Mallya’s Rs 9,000-crore loan default.
The second part of the Budget session in Parliament resumed on Monday, amid several ongoing issues including the Uttarakhand government crisis. Opposition parties have derailed proceedings in both Houses over the Centre’s imposition of President’s Rule in Uttarakhand, which was later quashed by the Uttarakhand High Court.
Other issues that will be brought up are the Ishrat Jahan case, Vijay Mallya’s Rs 9,000-crore loan default, and the drought crisis. However, there are several pending bills and legislations to pass – 13 bills are pending in the Lok Sabha, and 11 in the Rajya Sabha, PTI reported. The Centre has also been trying to pass the Goods and Service Taxes Bill, which was delayed in the Winter session of Parliament in 2015.
Several Opposition parties have already given notices asking for suspension of Question Hour on Monday. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan held an all-party meet on Sunday and appealed for the smooth functioning of the House till the session ends on May 13.
