The presidential campaign of Democrat Hillary Clinton has criticised Republican front-runner Donald Trump for using a fake Indian accent to mock call centre representatives from India during an election rally. The campaign formally launched the "Indian-Americans for Hillary" body and said Trump's comments show disrespect towards the Indian community and is reflective of his divisive rhetoric, reported PTI.

“Donald Trump mocking Indian workers is just typical of his disrespect that he has shown to groups across the spectrum,” said John Podesta, chairman of the Clinton Campaign. “He has run a campaign of bigotry and division. I think that’s quite dangerous for the country when you think about the fact that you need friends, allies. The kind of campaign he is running breeds disrespect across the globe and breeds division and danger here at home,” Podesta added.

Trump said he had called his credit card company in New York to find out where their customer care service was based and imitated an Indian accent while copying the call centre staffer’s response. “Guess what, you’re talking to a person from India. How the hell does that work?” he asked his supporters. He then added that he was not angry with India's leaders but with US lawmakers “for being so stupid”. He also said that India is "a great place".
