A truck bomb on Saturday killed at least 21 people and injured more than 42 in Baghdad, Iraq. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, AP reported. Iraq’s Interior Ministry said the bomb targeted Shiite civilians in an open-air market at Nahrawan. The militant group’s statement claimed the bomb was targeted at Shiite Muslims who were going to Baghdad’s Kadhimiyah shrine.

Thousands of Shiite Muslims will be travelling to the shrine of Imam Moussa al-Kadhim to commemorate his death anniversary. Brigadier General Saad Mann said the IS likely carried out the attack because of their recent losses in Iraq. The country has been hit by several IS attacks recently, including more than 25 people in attacks early in April (pictured above), and a bombing at a stadium in March that killed 29.
