A special women’s court in Mumbai on Thursday convicted all four accused in the murder of Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandes, and sentenced them to life in prison. The incident took place on October 20, 2011, when 24-year-old Santos and 29-year-old Fernandes were killed outside an eatery in Amboli, Mumbai. The two were repeatedly stabbed in front of several witnesses after they intervened when a group of men started harassing their female friends.

The group of harassers reportedly retreated after they were confronted, but soon came back with around 10 more people in tow, and attacked the two. Santos died the same night, while Fernandes died a few days later.

The four accused, Jitendra Rana, Sunil Bodh, Satish Dulhaj and Dipak Tival, were arrested soon after the incident and charged for murder and molestation, NDTV reported. The others were arrested and charged with rioting, but later released on bail.
