Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vishwa Parishad held a rally outside Kolkata’s Jadavpur University on Monday, condemning what they called “anti-national activities” by its students. Several police teams had arrived to prevent clashes as hundreds of students gathered at the gates. The police barricaded the entrances to the university, but students were seen climbing over them, NDTV reported.

Members of the ABVP were seen shouting slogans outside the gates. An ABVP member Subir Haldar told FirstPost, “The Leftists have turned the university into a den of anti-national activities. Forgetting their own country, they raise pro-Pakistan slogans.“

The ABPV rally was a protest against clashes (pictured above) that had erupted when the group was trying to screen Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama Buddha in a Traffic Jam on campus on Friday. Violence broke out after there was confusion over whether the film screening had been forcibly cancelled or not. Later, ABVP members were accused of molesting women in the fracas that followed.
