IPL: Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers smash Gujarat Lions to pulp
Royal Challengers Bangalore romped to a 144-run win, the biggest of the tournament.
Royal Challengers Bangalore smashed the Gujarat Lions by 144 runs, the highest victory margin in the history of the tournament at the Chinnwaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Bangalore scored an eye-popping 248/3 and then bowled Gujarat out for just 104.
Chris Gayle was dismissed for just eight but it was the Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers show after that. The two put on a 229-run partnership, the highest in Twenty20 cricket, with both the batsmen getting centuries, the second time it has ever happened in a Twenty20 match. Kohli finished on 109 off just 55 bals while de Villiers slammed 129 in his 52 balls. The total of 248/3 was the second-highest in IPL history.
The Lions seemed stunned by Bangalore's onslaught and could hardly recover. They slipped to 44/3 and apart from Aaron Finch's 37, only managed to get to 104. Chris Jordan picked up 4/11 for Bangalore, with Yuzuvendra Chahal also chipping in with 3/19.
