IPL: Kolkata Knight Riders thrash Rising Pune Supergiants by eight wickets
Kolkata had to chase down 66 in nine overs after rain interrupted proceedings at the Eden Gardens.
Kolkata Knight Riders completed a facile eight-wicket victory over Rising Pune Supergiants, chasing down 66 in five overs, in a rain-shortened match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. KKR won the match via the Duckworth-Lewis method, after restricting Pune to 103/6 in 17.4 overs before rain interrupted play.
Pune struggled after choosing to bat, losing Ajinkya Rahane early and never getting off the blocks. George Bailey was the only Pune batsman who got going, but was dismissed for a 27-ball 33. Wickets fell regularly before rain interrupted proceedings. Mahendra Singh Dhoni had limped to 8 off 22 balls.
After a lengthy rain delay, Kolkata were set a target of 66 runs to win in nine overs. They lost their openers in the first over itself, but offered no respite to Pune after that with Yusuf Pathan unleashing a flurry of boundaries and sixes. He finished with 37 off 18 balls, as Kolkata won by eight wickets, moving up to second spot in the table.
