Social activist Anna Hazare on Sunday received a death threat for “stoking unrest in society”, his office has claimed. The letter was written in Marathi and sent to his headquarters in Ralegan Siddhi village, said his spokesperson Shyam Asawa. The letter bears the name “Ambadas Lashkare” from Nevase, a city 65 kilometres from Ahmednagar, PTI reported.

It is unclear whether police investigations have started, but Hazare has been given additional security of the category ‘Z’, which is the third-highest level of security in the country. It usually entails security cover by Central Reserve Police Force personnel as well as an escort car.

Hazare has been at the forefront several grassroots movement in the country. His anti-corruption movement, which included an indefinite hunger strike in 2011 that demanded a Jan Lokpal Bill, received nationwide support. He was given the Padma Bhushan in 1992.
