Former Indian cricketer Deepak Shodhan, who was the first Indian batsman to hit a century on Test debut, died at his home in Ahmedabad on Monday. The 87-year-old was India's oldest living Test cricketer prior to his death. He was suffering from lung cancer, which was detected in February, reported ESPNcricinfo.
Shodhan played three Test matches for India and finished with an average of 60.33. He made his Test debut against Pakistan in 1952 and scored a century in the match, playing with the tail and taking them to a first-innings lead. He was also a prolific batsman for Gujarat at the first-class level, scoring 1,802 runs at an average of 31.
