Doctor murdered in Bangladesh, police suspect Islamist militants behind the attack
Locals said the man was known in the area for distributing free homoeopathic medicine.
Unknown attackers killed a doctor and injured his professor friend in Bangladesh on Friday. The doctor, Mir Sanwar Rahman, was reportedly known by locals for offering free homoeopathic medicine. He was hacked to death while he and his professor friend were riding on a motorbike in Kushtia district, reports said. Police said the attack was similar to a series of recent attacks by suspected Islamist, AFP reported. However, no groups have claimed the attack.
Friday’s attack comes a week after a Buddhist monk was killed, while an atheist student, two gay rights activists, a professor, a Hindu tailor and a Muslim leader have also been murdered in the country over the last month. These incidents suggest there has been a worrying rise in the deaths of religious minorities, secular writers and activists in Bangladesh over the last year. In 2015, four secular bloggers were killed in similar fashion.
