Durai Murugan will be his deputy in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party, which had emerged the second largest party in the state, winning 89 seats.
MK Stalin, son of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi, will be the leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu, the party announced on Tuesday. Durai Murugan will be his deputy, The News Minute reported. Stalin is also the DMK's treasurer.
The party lost the recently concluded state elections to the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, winning only 89 of the state’s 234 Assembly seats. Stalin had won from Kolathur seat, beating the AIADMK candidate by nearly 38,000 seats. A Chakkrapani will be the DMK's whip in the House, The Times of India said.
On Monday, Karunanidhi had criticised re-elected Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa after Stalin was placed in the 16th row at her swearing-in ceremony. The DMK chief had said that Jayalalithaa “deliberately humiliated” Stalin by placing others like actor-turned-politician Sarath Kumar, who did not win a seat in this election, in front during the event.
