Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan’s new official car is a white Jaguar XE Portfolio, which cost Rs 48.25 lakh. The luxury sedan was bought for security reasons, the secretariat of the Lower House said. Secretary of the Lok Sabha Secretariat DK Bhalla told The Indian Express that they chose the cheaper of the BMW or Jaguar options they were offered “on the basis of their security manoeuvrability”.

So far, Mahajan has been using a Toyota Camry as her official vehicle. The Speaker is at equal standing with the chief justice of India, sixth after the president, vice president, prime minister, governors, and both former presidents and deputy prime minister, according to protocol norms.
