Superintendent of children's home in Delhi arrested on molestation charges
Several girls at the facility alleged that Ram Sahay Meena had taken them to an isolated room and tried to physically abuse them.
A superintendent of a children’s home in Delhi was arrested on Wednesday over molestation charges, reported PTI. An FIR has been lodged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act at the Lajpat Nagar police station, PTI reported.
The arrest was made after several girls at the facility complained that Ram Sahay Meena had molested them. “The superintendent of children home in Lajpat Nagar Ram Sahay Meena was arrested on a complaint received through a Delhi government official on Tuesday evening,” a senior police officer told PTI.
The issue reportedly came to light after Delhi Women and Child Welfare Minister Sandeep Kumar visited to the facility and the girls, all below 10 years of age, told him their ordeal on June 3. The girls alleged that the superintendent had taken them to an isolated room and tried to physically abuse them. The superintendent was immediately sacked.
Apart from Meena, the minister also reportedly ordered the termination of a woman welfare officer, who was also said to be involved in the incident. The officer allegedly witnessed Meena harassing the children but did not protest or inform the authorities. The children's home has around 50 girls.
